Edify Energy has successfully secured federal funding of $48.2 million for development of its Green Hydrogen Facility in Townsville, Queensland.
Edify will build and operate the 17.6MW green hydrogen production plant on Thul Garrie Waja country within the Lansdown Eco-Industrial Precinct, Northern Australia’s foremost eco-industrial precinct for advanced manufacturing, processing, technology and emerging industries in Townsville, Queensland.

The green hydrogen facility powered by co-located solar photovoltaic and battery storage facility will initially produce 800 tonnes of green hydrogen per annum, building up to in excess of 150,000 tonnes of production to service both domestic and export markets from the Port of Townsville.
Edify is in advanced discussions with motivated off-takers, across power generation, heavy industry and transport looking for an alternate clean fuel source to meet net zero targets.
Edify CEO John Cole said there was an immense opportunity for Townsville to be at the forefront of Australian and global green hydrogen supply.

We look forward to delivering our green hydrogen production facility, initially supplying our domestic customers and thereafter export markets from the Port of Townsville at a large scale, which is the end game.

Federal Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen said renewable hydrogen was a game changer, opening the door to green metals, green fertiliser, green power and supporting industrial decarbonisation.
“The whole world needs renewable hydrogen, and regional Australia is ready to provide it.
With its port, expertise in exports and access to Queensland’s abundant solar resources, Townsville is ideally placed to help power the world with Australian renewable energy and create jobs in regional Australia,” Bowen said.
